Beth on her soap box

Well, I have never stated my political views on this blog. That's not really the purpose. This blog is dedicated to publicly praising the Lord for my precious daughter and coming to you for prayers in this tumultuous journey. And to share a bit about my family and friends.

But, my dream come true is here today because her brave birth mother, didn't choose abortion. That precious woman chose life and her decision is the reason my daughter will be home very soon! Just look at this sweet girl and imagine her birth mother making a different choice. It takes my breath and nauseates me to even type it.

Friends, we have a decision to make in November, right around the time I hope to bring Isabella Faye home. Below is a compilation of the stance of both presidential candidates on abortion as compiled by the National Right to Life. Please prayerfully consider your choice come election day.

John McCain's stance on abortion
John McCain supports overturning Roe v. Wade. He voted against an amendment that read, “It
is the sense of the Senate that the decision of the Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade was appropriate
and secures an important constitutional right; and such decision should not be overturned.”
John McCain voted in favor of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act. When the Act was upheld by
the Supreme Court on April 18, 2007, Sen. McCain said, “Today’s Supreme Court ruling is a victory for those who cherish the sanctity of life and integrity of the judiciary. The ruling ensures that an unacceptable and unjustifiable practice will not be carried out on our innocent children.”
John McCain voted in favor of the Unborn Victims of Violence Act (“Laci and Conner’s Law”). The bill establishes that when an unborn child is injured or killed during the commission of a
violent federal crime, the assailant may be charged with a second offense on behalf of the
second victim, the unborn child.
John McCain voted in support of a bill to require an abortionist to notify a parent before
performing an abortion on a minor who lives in another state.
John McCain opposes the “Freedom of Choice Act” (FOCA), a bill which would prohibit states
from placing limits on abortion, including the types now permitted by the Supreme Court, such
as parental involvement laws and waiting periods, and which would make partial-birth
abortion legal again.
John McCain voted against an amendment to nullify the “Mexico City Policy.” The Mexico City
Policy cut off U.S. “family planning” funds to private organizations that perform or promote
abortions overseas.
John McCain voted against repealing the law that prohibits performance of elective abortions in
military medical facilities.
At a speech at Wake Forest University, John McCain described the kind of people he would
nominate to the Supreme Court. “I have my own standards of judicial ability, experience,
philosophy, and temperament. And Chief Justice [John] Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito
meet those standards in every respect. They would serve as the model for my own nominees if
that responsibility falls to me.”

Barak Obama's stance on abortion
Barack Obama is a co-sponsor of the “Freedom of Choice Act” (FOCA), a bill that would
nullify virtually all federal and state limitations on abortion, including the types now permitted by the Supreme Court, such as parental notification laws and waiting periods. It would also make
partial-birth abortion legal again.
While in the Illinois State Senate, Barack Obama voted against legislation that prohibited taxpayer dollars from being used to pay for abortion. His campaign has stated that he “does not support” the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits taxpayer funding of abortion through the Medicaid program.
Barack Obama voted to block a bill to require an abortionist to notify a parent before performing an abortion on a minor who lives in another state. Barack Obama voted against an amendment to allow states to provide federally subsidized health care insurance for an unborn child (within the SCHIP program). The amendment would have written explicit language into the SCHIP
statute to guarantee that a covered child “includes, at the option of a State, an unborn
child.” The amendment further defined “unborn child” as “a member of the species homo sapiens, at any stage of development, who is carried in the womb.”
Barack Obama sharply criticized the Supreme Court for its 2007 Gonzales v. Carhart decision
upholding the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act. He said, “I strongly disagree with today’s Supreme
Court ruling...I am extremely concerned that this ruling will embolden state legislatures to enact
further measures to restrict a woman’s right to choose, and that the conservative Supreme Court justices will look for other opportunities to erode Roe v. Wade, which is established federal law and a matter of equal rights for women.”
While a member of the Illinois State Senate, Barack Obama opposed the proposed “Born-Alive
Infants Protection Act” (BAIPA). The measure was very similar to the federal BAIPA, which
President Bush signed into law in 2002. Obama opposed the legislation for three straight
legislative sessions and twice spoke against the bill on the Senate floor. He voted against the bill
twice in committee and once on the Senate floor.
Both laws were intended to provide protection for babies who survived abortions equal to protection received by babies who are spontaneously born prematurely.
Since his election to the Senate in 2004, Barack Obama has compiled a 0% voting record on prolife issues scored by the National Right to Life Committee. By contrast, he has a 100% rating
from NARAL Pro-Choice America.

Thanks for posting this. I have been struggling with these upcoming elections. I don't know who to vote for and this gave an insight into both party's way of thinking when it comes to something that is important...a life. God Bless you Beth!
